The Caribbean's premier off-road triathlon is right here in Treasure Beach. It has been the biggest event in the small fishing community for the last seven years and draws an enthusiastic and vocal crowd. This event, which is hosted by the world-renowned hotel Jake's, is in its 8th year and attracts top off-road racers and enthusiasts from Jamaica, the Caribbean and around the world. It features a 500 meter ocean swim, a 25K (13.7M) mountainbike and a 7K (4.3M) country run. It can be raced as an individual or as a 3-person relay team. Jake's Jamaican Off-Road Triathlon is known for having local everything, including prizes, food and entertainment. Additionally, the field is strictly limited to 100 Jamaicans and 100 international participants. Despite any racing rivalry among the elite contestants, the feeling is very friendly and intimate among all of the participants, many of whom choose "Jake's Off-Road" as their first triathlon experience. So pros and amateurs alike are invited to the ultimate in off-road triathlons in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. This year's event will again include an under 14 Aquathlon, where area youths swim 50 meters, then run 250 meters down a local beach. The Aquathon is intended to expose children to multi-event sports. Last year, over one hundred children participated. The Purpose All the profits from the Jake's Jamaican Off-Road Triathlon go to community projects, sponsored by Breds. Future plans include the construction of a community center that will house an auditorium, a computer lab, a library and a health clinic. It will also serve as a base for the Treasure Beach Emergency Response Unit.
